Taiwan media reports : Taiwan military officials pointed out today (6th) that Taiwan and the United States have signed 18 arms sales agreements to Taiwan, including naval ammunition, totaling NT$3.065.4 billion (US$107 million). The purchase agreement will be able to maintain the ammunition requirements of various types of ships of the Taiwan Navy for the next 9 years, including ammunition required for naval guns and the MK-15 “Phalanx” near defense weapon system.
According to the latest data released by the Taiwan authorities’ “Electronic Procurement Network”, Taiwan’s “Military Mission in the United States” organization and the American Association in Taiwan (AIT) have signed 18 procurement agreements for naval ammunition and other items on November 6.
A tender announcement was issued on Japan, and the total amount reached 107 million US dollars. The performance date is expected from October 20 this year to the end of September 2029, which means that the demand for and supply of Taiwanese warships for the next 9 years must be guaranteed.
Taiwanese military officials said that the items included in this procurement case are all ammunition required by the Taiwan Navy’s traditional weapons, excluding precision ammunition such as torpedoes and missiles. Because traditional warship weapons and ammunition exercises require a lot of live ammunition and the demand is high, it is necessary to purchase supplies regularly to maintain combat readiness requirements.
According to Taiwan media, Taiwan’s naval warships must maintain combat effectiveness. In addition to missile torpedoes, they are equipped with traditional ammunition weapon systems and defense systems. Depending on the configuration of each type of warship, they have 76mm single-tube guns (some warships are equipped with 2 Menbofors L/70 40mm single-barreled naval gun), MK-15 close-in weapon system, Mk36 jammer launcher, etc.
In response to a reporter’s question on US arms sales to Taiwan on the 4th, National Defense Spokesperson Wu Qian said: US arms sales to Taiwan seriously violate the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiqués, and seriously endanger China’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. Challenges China’s core interests and seriously undermines the relations between China and the United States and the two militaries and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
China firmly opposes and strongly condemns this.
The Taiwan issue involves China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as China’s core interests. No foreign interference is allowed. To control China with Taiwan and resist reunification with force will ultimately be a dead end. We require the US to fully recognize the serious harm of US arms sales to Taiwan, immediately cancel any arms sales plans to Taiwan, stop arms sales to Taiwan and US-Taiwan military ties, and handle Taiwan-related issues prudently and properly, so as not to jeopardize the relations between the two countries and the two militaries.
Peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait have caused incalculable and serious consequences. If you play with fire, you must burn yourself. The Chinese People’s Liberation Army will never allow anyone or any force to split the sacred territory of the motherland. If someone insists on going their own way, we are bound to strike head-on.
