April 30 The World Health Organization announced on the 30th that Coronavirus vaccine developed by the United States company Moderna has been added to the emergency list, making it the fifth Coronavirus vaccine to be certified by WHO for emergency use.
The Moderna Coronavirus Vaccine is a messenger RNA vaccine and the first Coronavirus vaccine to be clinically tested in the United States. The vaccine was reviewed in January 2021 by the WHO Strategic Advisory Expert Group on Immunization, which recommended that people 18 years of age and older use the vaccine.
In December 2020, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved an application for an emergency license to use the Moderna Coronavirus vaccine. In January 2021, the European Medicines Agency approved its listing within the European Union.
Previously, WHO had issued emergency use certifications for four Coronavirus vaccines, namely Coronavirus vaccine jointly developed by Pfizer of the United States and Biotech of Germany, two versions of the AstraZeneca vaccine jointly developed by AstraZeneca pharmaceutical companies in the United Kingdom and Oxford University, and Coronavirus vaccine developed by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson.
