January 21st, the Amazon police in northwest Brazil arrested 63 barkeepers and customers watching football games in five illegally operated bars in the eastern part of the capital Manaus.
Amazon is currently the region with the worst COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil.
On January 15, the capital city of Manaus announced a curfew from 19:00 p.m. to 6 a.m. every day from now on, prohibiting the movement of non-essential people.
The deadline of the curfew is January 31, and on the evening of the 21st, the police received reports that five bars continued to operate after the curfew and a large number of people gathered to watch the football match.
The police immediately sent police to block the bars, arrested bar owners and customers, and confiscated alcoholic beverages banned from being sold during the curfew.
At present, the medical system in Amazon is overwhelmed and there is a shortage of medical oxygen equipment.
More than 241,000 patients have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and more than 6,700 people have died in the state.
