WHO: India finds ‘double mutation’ of Coronavirus a cause for concern

April 16th, local time, WHO held a regular briefing on the Coronavirus, WHO health emergency project technical director Maria van Kohoff said that India has found a new coronavirus with both E484Q and L452R mutations, the relevant research information has been submitted to the WHO Working Group on Virus Evolution. It is reported that the “double mutation” will be detected by the end of 2020, the proportion of cases of infection is increasing.

Maria van Kochoff points out that the “double mutation” of the virus is a concern that it could lead to increased infectiousness, and that some mutations could reduce neutralize the response or affect pandemic responses such as vaccines.

WHO is working with countries such as India to increase the proportion of viral gene sequencing for research.
