Federal prosecutors searched the apartment of Rudy Giuliani, Mr. Trump’s personal lawyer, to advance an investigation into His private and illegal contacts with Ukraine, multiple U.S. media outlets reported on April 28.
Investigators reportedly seized Giuliani’s electronic devices, and Giuliani had previously been revealed to have used Ukraine to frame Trump’s then-rival, Joe Biden.
Under U.S. law, prosecutors can obtain a search warrant only if they can convince a judge that a search may produce evidence of a crime. During the Trump administration, Justice Department officials repeatedly tried to block the U.S. Attorney’s Office from applying for a search warrant for Giuliani’s cell phone.
