The PGA of America said that the 2022 PGA Championship, originally scheduled for Trump National Golf Club, will be held in different places.

Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol last week, causing the PGA to make the decision 16 months before the 2022 championship.

Trump National Golf Club is located in Bedminster, New Jersey, which won the right to host the 2022 PGA Championship in 2014.

The event was originally scheduled to be held from May 19 to 22, 2022, and it is also the first men’s grand slam event hosted by Trump’s golf course.

Because the preparations before the game are very complicated, the organizers usually send personnel to the venue two years before the start of the PGA Championship. The PGA said in a statement that the board of directors voted on the 10th to terminate its cooperation with Trump National Golf Club. The board believes that if the game continues to be held at Bedminster Stadium, it will endanger the PGA brand.

“We found ourselves swept into a political whirlpool,” PGA CEO Seth Vaughn told The Associated Press, “The Capitol affair prevented us from continuing to play in Bedminster.”

A Trump spokesman told ABC: “The decision [to compete in different places] is very disappointing, which violates the binding clause of the contract, and the other party has no right to terminate the agreement.

We’ve invested millions of dollars into the 2022 PGA Championship.”

AFP said on the 11th that Trump is an avid golf fan who has waved at Bedminster Stadium many times during his presidency.

The Financial Times said that “Trump is a shrewd golfer and has been trying to improve his asset image through related events”.
