December 15th According to a Russian satellite news agency, Trump announced on the 14th local time that U.S. Attorney General Barr will leave before Christmas.
Trump tweeted Barr’s resignation letter, and tweeted, “I just had a very pleasant meeting with Attorney General Barr at the White House. We have always had a great relationship and he does a great job! According to the letter, Bill will be leaving before Christmas to spend his holiday with his family.”
Trump also said that Under Secretary of Justice Jeff Rosen will become acting Attorney General. Richard Donoghue will take over as Deputy Minister of Justice.
In his resignation letter, Barr said that he would officially leave on December 23. Barr, 70, was appointed as the U.S. Attorney General in February 2019.
The Associated Press reported on December 1 that Barr announced in an interview that the U.S. Department of Justice had found no evidence that there was “election fraud” that changed the outcome of the U.S. presidential election.
