At 3 o’clock in the morning on December 15th, local time, a landslide accident occurred at the Pakang Jadeite Mine in Kachin State, Myanmar. Up to now, three people have been killed and two injured.
The Myanmar government issued a notice on June 26, requesting the suspension of mining operations in the Kachin State jadeite mining area from July 1, and then postponed the deadline for the suspension to the end of January 2021.
However, after the ban on mining was issued, illegal mining has been repeatedly banned. On July 2, a large-scale mine disaster occurred in Pakant, killing 174 illegal extractors and 20 missing.
After that, the Myanmar government took further measures to crack down on illegal mining, but it was still unable to completely eliminate it, and accidents occurred from time to time.
