According to U.S. media reports, the White House plans to hold up to 20 indoor gatherings during the Christmas holiday. On the evening of December 1, the White House had held an indoor event. President Trump made a brief appearance, and several invitees to the event did not wear masks.
On December 2, Stephanie Grisham, aide to Melania Trump, said in a statement that the White House would celebrate the festival in “the safest possible environment” and “encourage” guests to practice social distancing.
White House Press Secretary Kelly McKinney denied concerns about the rally. She told reporters, “If people can take to the streets to rob, burn buildings, and protest, then people can also celebrate festivals.”
