Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defense Wu Qian answers reporters’ questions on US arms sales to Taiwan
Q: According to media reports, the US approved the sale of four MQ-9 drones to Taiwan on November 3, with a total value of approximately US$600 million. Do you have any comments on this?
A: The US arms sales to Taiwan seriously violate the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiqués, seriously endanger China’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, seriously challenge China’s core interests, and seriously undermine Sino-US military relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. China strongly opposes and strongly condemns this.
The Taiwan issue involves China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as China’s core interests.
No foreign interference is allowed.
To control China with Taiwan and resist reunification with force will ultimately be a dead end. We require the US to fully recognize the serious harm of US arms sales to Taiwan, immediately cancel any arms sales plans to Taiwan.
Stop arms sales to Taiwan and US-Taiwan military ties, and handle Taiwan-related issues prudently and properly, so as not to jeopardize the relations between the two countries and the two militaries.
Peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait have caused incalculable and serious consequences. If you play with fire, you must burn yourself.
The Chinese People’s Liberation Army will never allow anyone or any force to split the sacred territory of the motherland. If someone insists on going their own way, we are bound to strike head-on.
