January 11, Tanzanian President Magufuli met with visiting Mozambique President Niusi in Chateau.
The leaders of the two countries reached a consensus on strengthening bilateral economic cooperation and local security, aiming to improve the living standards of the two peoples.
Tanzanian President Maguli greeted Newsey at Chateau Airport. After the formal meeting, the two attended the press conference together. At the press conference, the two said that Tanzania and Mozambique are traditionally friendly countries, and the two countries have strong diplomatic, social and political relations.
In recent years, bilateral trade between the two countries has been going smoothly. According to the data of the Tanzania Revenue Agency (TRA), the export trade volume of the two countries increased from 76.4 billion Tanzanian shillings (about $32.93 million) in 2018 to 9.6 billion Tanzanian shillings (about 40.34 million US dollars) in 2019.
But since 2017, terrorist attacks by Islamic organizations have been frequent in the border areas of the two countries, causing hundreds of thousands of people to be displaced in Mozambique.
Therefore, the discussion on the security situation in the border area has also received the main attention of this meeting. After the meeting, Mozambique President New Zealand returned to Mozambique by plane.
This is the second visit to Tanzania during Newsey’s tenure. The last visit was in December 2017.
Currently, he is also the rotating chairman of the Southern African Development Community, Tanzania and Mozambique, which are also SADC countries.
