Premier League clubs have agreed to a three-year, 5.1 billion pound Premier League broadcast deal with four television broadcasters, including Sky Sports, officials announced Wednesday.
“This was a decision to renew the contract after extensive consultation and government approval,” the Premier League official said. “The Uk Government provides under the Competition Act 1998 that the Premier League can renew its contract with the broadcaster without having to go through a normal tender for broadcast rights.
Richard Masters, the Premier League’s chief executive, said the signing of the renewal would provide financial stability for the Premier League and allow it to commit to more investment.
It is understood that the renewal agreement will maintain the terms of the original agreement, and will add an additional 100 million pounds to the Premier League funding, which will be provided in instalments over the next four years.
