The PKM highway project is the abbreviation of Peshawar-Karachi Expressway. This highway starts from Karachi in the south, passes through Hyderabad, Sukur, Multan, Lahore, Islamabad and other cities, and ends in Peshawar in the north. It is 1,152 kilometers long. It is the “early harvest project” of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
China Construction undertook the construction and implementation of the PKM project (Sukur-Mutan section) under the EPC contract model, with financial support from the Export-Import Bank of China. The total length of the project is 392 kilometers, the design speed is 120 kilometers per hour, and the two-way six lanes are. The contract period is 36 months, and the contract amount is about $2,889 million.
The construction scale of the project is huge, including 100 bridges, 468 corridors (an average of 1 channel per 800 meters), 991 culverts, 11 interchanges (an average of 35 kilometers and 1 interchange), 6 pairs of service areas, 5 pairs of rest areas, 22 toll stations, and green grass organic protection on the whole slope; 392 kilometers Set up security signs and intelligent transportation systems; set up FM broadcasting and wireless networks in rest areas, service areas, etc.
During the epidemic this year, the PKM project is in the trial operation stage. Facing a series of difficulties such as shortage of personnel and epidemic risks, the project management team adopts online office, territorial management and other means to ensure the stable and orderly operation of all work during the trial operation of the project.
After the project is officially transferred, it will help open up the main traffic artery between the north and south of central Pakistan, greatly improve the traffic situation in Pakistan, and directly promote the social and economic development of the areas along the route for the benefit of the Pakistani people.
