The International Olympic Committee has frozen the working mechanism of the Iraqi Olympic Committee due to doubts about the election results.
November 21 International Olympic Committee decided that it would freeze the existing working mechanism of the Iraqi Olympic Committee due to possible fraud in the Iraqi Olympic Committee election and conduct a follow-up investigation.
The IOC statement said that in the recently concluded Iraqi Olympic Committee elections, suspicious situations emerged around several candidates, and 19 relevant personnel objected to the election results.
After understanding the relevant situation, the International Olympic Committee believes that the candidate has failed to give a reasonable explanation for these objections.
This situation is contrary to the statute of the Iraqi Olympic Committee, which has initiated legal proceedings in the Iraqi judiciary. Therefore, the legal effect of the existing election results has not been confirmed.
The IOC will not recognize the election results for the time being. It will freeze the current working mechanism of the Iraqi Olympic Committee and convene a meeting to discuss and investigate this issue.
