Suva, December 19 Qian Bo, the Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, on behalf of the Chinese Federation of Red Cross Societies, transmitted an emergency humanitarian cash assistance to the Fiji Red Cross Society on the 19th to help Fiji, a South Pacific island country hit hard by tropical cyclone Yasa, in disaster relief work.

On the same day, at the Fiji Red Cross Office, Chambo transferred the assistance of 210,000 Fiji dollars (about $100,000) to the Secretary-General of the Fiji Red Cross, Rokotunidau, the first bilateral assistance received by the Fiji Red Cross after the disaster. Qian Bo said that although China and Fiji are far away, the hearts of the two peoples have always been closely linked.

The Chinese government and people share the severe tropical cyclone disaster to the people of Fiji. I believe that with the strong leadership of the Fijian government and the help of the international community, the Fijian people will be able to overcome the temporary difficulties caused by the tropical cyclone and resume normal production and life as soon as possible.

Rokotunidau thanked the Chinese government and people and the Federation of the Red Cross Societies of China for extending a helping hand and providing timely and valuable assistance to Fiji at a critical moment, and said that he would ensure that the relevant funds were put into the places most needed as soon as possible.

In an interview with Xinhua News Agency, Rokotunidau said that this assistance is very timely, which is exactly the assistance Fiji needs in the current difficult period and is very helpful for post-disaster relief.

Tropical Cyclone Yasa ravaged Fiji from 17 to 18, causing four deaths and a large amount of property damage so far, especially in the northern islands of the country.
