Suva, December 19 Qian Bo, the Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, on behalf of the Chinese Federation of Red Cross Societies, transmitted an emergency humanitarian cash assistance to the Fiji Red Cross Society on the 19th to help Fiji, a South Pacific island country hit hard by tropical cyclone Yasa, in disaster relief work.
On the same day, at the Fiji Red Cross Office, Chambo transferred the assistance of 210,000 Fiji dollars (about $100,000) to the Secretary-General of the Fiji Red Cross, Rokotunidau, the first bilateral assistance received by the Fiji Red Cross after the disaster. Qian Bo said that although China and Fiji are far away, the hearts of the two peoples have always been closely linked.
The Chinese government and people share the severe tropical cyclone disaster to the people of Fiji. Rokotunidau thanked the Chinese government and people and the Federation of the Red Cross Societies of China for extending a helping hand and providing timely and valuable assistance to Fiji at a critical moment, and said that he would ensure that the relevant funds were put into the places most needed as soon as possible.
