May 11th 2021 European Commission announced that it had committed 210 million euros in humanitarian aid funding to the Sahel region of Africa and central African countries by 2021.

The European Commission said funds would be allocated to humanitarian projects in eight countries: Burkina Faso, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Nigeria.

The EU’s crisis management commissioner says the intensification of instability and armed conflict, coupled with outbreaks of new pneumonia and natural disasters, has had devastating consequences for countries in the Sahel and Central Africa.

The EU has been committed to providing humanitarian assistance to help alleviate the suffering of the people of the region.
