April 19, local time, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Borrelli said at a press conference that the COUNCIL of Foreign Ministers of the European Union has decided to expand the list of sanctions against the Burmese military, 10 individuals and two economic entities subordinate to the military will be subject to sanctions.
The two entities are Myanmar Economic Holdings Limited (MEHL) and Myanmar Economic Corporation (MEC), which the European Union says provide an economic source for the Burmese military.
Earlier, on March 22nd the European Union announced sanctions against 10 senior military figures, including myanmar’s defence chief, Min Aung Rai, and the new head of Myanmar’s Federal Election Commission by banning entry into or transit through the Eu and freezing assets and economic sources within the country.
But the EUROPEAN Union has previously said it would impose sanctions without restricting trade relations with Myanmar.
