January 22 The Food and Drug Administration of Thailand said on the 21st that it had approved the emergency use of the coronavirus vaccine jointly developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca Pharmaceutical Company in the United Kingdom.
According to Thai media reports, the Secretary-General of the Thai Food and Drug Administration said in Bangkok on the 21st that the first batch of 50,000 doses of vaccine will arrive in Thailand in February, after which AstraZeneca will deliver 150,000 doses in March and April.
Bai Shan said that AstraZeneca submitted an application for emergency use of the vaccine on December 22 last year, and the Food and Drug Administration of Thailand approved the application on January 20, after considering the effectiveness and safety of the vaccine.
The import license and registration related to the vaccine are valid for one year.
On November 27 last year, Thailand’s National Vaccine Institute signed a $6 billion vaccine purchase contract with AstraZeneca, which included the transfer of vaccine production technology from AstraZeneca to Siam Biological Sciences Group in Thailand and authorized the group’s factories to produce vaccines in Thailand.
Baisang said that the vaccine produced in Thailand by Siam Biological Sciences Group using the transferred technology is expected to be launched in May.
