Local time on the 16th, according to statistics released by Thailand’s transport department, April 10-15, the Thai New Year Songkon Festival, six days before the national traffic accident caused a total of 238 deaths. On the 15th alone, 313 traffic accidents occurred, resulting in 29 deaths and 310 injuries.

In the past six days, traffic police have inspected more than 2 million motorcycles and motor vehicles and issued tickets to more than 390,000 drivers who break the rules, mainly for driving without a license, driving without a helmet and speeding, and drink driving.

Traffic accidents rise sharply during the Thai New Year Songkon festival each year, making it known locally as the “Black Seven Days”.
