January 28 According to a report by South Korean Radio International (KBS), South Korean Defense Minister Xu Xu said that preparations are being made for this, but the coronavirus pandemic is still a variable when talking about the joint South Korean-US military exercise scheduled for the first half of 2021 scheduled for early March.
New Year’s symposium held by the Ministry of Defense Office Building that he was preparing for the holding of joint South Korea-United States military exercises step by step from the perspective of the military.
Xu Xu said that the joint command post exercise held in the first half of this year was not an actual mobile exercise, but an annual defense exercise conducted by computer simulation.
Xu Xu also said that the coronavirus pandemic is a variable of military exercises, but there are many options, including dividing the space into multiple parts or groups when operating the command post.
Referring to the verification of full combat capability (FOC) conducted through joint South Korea-US military exercises aimed at regaining wartime combat command, Xu Xu said that he was under close consultation with the United States.
In 2020, South Korea and the United States postponed the joint military exercise in the first half of the year (March) indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The joint exercise in the second half of the year (August) also significantly reduced the number of participants, so the future verification of the full combat capability of the Joint Command will also be affected to some extent.
