It is reported that the Korean transport ship Hankuk Chemi was detained by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran on the 4th while sailing in the Strait of Hormuz near the Oman side. There are 20 crew members, including five Korean crew members.
It is understood that Choi will work closely with Bahrain-based Joint Maritime Forces (CMF), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea and the Ministry of Marine Fisheries of Korea and other relevant departments to deal with the situation.
Previously, a South Korean Foreign Ministry official said that South Korea was confirming the safety of the crew and demanding that Iran release the detained ship as soon as possible.
South Korea’s Ministry of Defense said that after learning that the South Korean merchant ship had been detained, it immediately sent Qinghai troops to the sea near the Strait of Hormuz for treatment.
