9 August 2021 Qatari media reported that Qatar will be held in the capital Doha on the 11th of this month, the U.S.-China-U.S.-Russia-Pakistan Quartet meeting on Afghanistan.
Representatives from China, the United States, Russia and Pakistan will exchange views on the situation in Afghanistan and the advancement of the peace process in Afghanistan.
In addition, the Quartet representatives plan to hold talks with representatives of the Government of Afghanistan and the Taliban, who are engaged in intra-Afghan peace talks in Doha.
On April 30 this year, Qatar hosted the U.S.-China-U.S.-Russia-Pakistan Quartet meeting on Afghanistan. In a joint statement issued after the meeting, the Quartet agreed that a negotiated political solution was the only correct way to achieve lasting peace in Afghanistan. Foreign troops should be withdrawn from Afghanistan in a responsible manner to ensure a smooth transition.
The Quartet unanimously called on the parties to the Afghan peace talks to reach an early agreement on fundamental issues, promote peace and stability in Afghanistan, form an inclusive Government and achieve a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire.
