December 27 – Russian President Putin warned on Sunday (26th) that the United States and its allies had crossed the “red line” drawn by Russia and forced Russia to an inderetreatable situation.
According to the Russian satellite news agency, Putin said on the program of “Russia 1” TV on the same day: “I have talked about the ‘red line’ that we think NATO should not cross. I hope everyone at home and abroad understands that the problem is not that we don’t know anyone wants to cross that line; it’s that we have nowhere to retreat, and NATO has pushed us on such a line.
Please forgive us for not being able to retreat anymore.” Putin added that NATO will deploy a missile system in Ukraine and attack Moscow in four to five minutes. “Where can we move?” Russia must stop them. Putin said he hoped that the Russian people, Ukrainian people, European and American people would understand the essence of Moscow’s security proposals to Washington and NATO, which Moscow decided to delay negotiations while sending a large number of modern weapons to Ukraine.
According to the report, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the draft Russian security assurance treaty with the United States and NATO on December 17. The document has been transmitted to Washington and its allies.
One of the elements of the draft is to propose NATO to provide assurances that it will not be extended to Ukrainian territory. According to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Riabkov, if NATO and the United States do not respond to Russia’s security assurances, this may lead to a new round of confrontation.
