Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation with Kyrgyzstan’s Acting President and Prime Minister Zaparov on the 12th to discuss Kyrgyz’s domestic situation and other issues.

According to the news released on the Kremlin website that day, Zaparov informed Putin about the situation after the parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan in October. Putin said that Russia hopes that the situation in Kyrgyzstan will be stable and domestic political issues will be resolved as soon as possible. Both sides expressed their willingness to continue to strengthen the alliance and strategic partnership between the two countries.

Putin and Zaparov also discussed the current situation and prospects of the relations between the two countries, and focused on issues such as economic and trade, humanities cooperation, and joint fight against Coronavirus pandemic.

Dissatisfied with the preliminary results of the parliamentary elections held on October 4, Kyrgyzstan’s many unsuccessful parties held protest rallies to demand cancellation of the election results and clashed with the police.

On October 6, the Kyrgyz Central Election Commission declared the results of parliamentary elections invalid. Kyrgyz President Reenbekov delivered a national speech on October 15, announcing his resignation from the presidency. Prime Minister Zaparov subsequently announced that he would exercise presidential power.
