Aug. 20 2021 A 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck Haiti, destroying the country’s only medical oxygen plant in the south.
According to reports, the collapse of the oxygen plant operator Kurchi Jayne 19, said that the building where the oxygen machine was damaged in the earthquake, oxygen machine also collapsed.
The oxygen used in the local hospitals comes mainly from the plant and two medical oxygen plants in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Jayne said the Coronavirus outbreak is accelerating in Haiti, with hospital oxygen use up 200 percent in July from the previous month.
As of the 19th, the earthquake in Haiti has killed at least 2,189 people, 12,268 injured, there are still more than 300 people missing. Haitian officials estimate that more than 100,000 homes were damaged by the earthquake and subsequent storms, and nearly 30,000 families were left homeless.
