The Moroccan military announced on the 13th local time that in a rescue operation carried out from 10 to 12, the Royal Moroccan Navy rescued 100 illegal immigrants who wanted to smuggle to Europe in the Mediterranean Sea.

At that time, the simple fishing boat on which these people were travelling was damaged and their lives were in danger. The rescued people include women and children, most of whom come from sub-Saharan Africa.

Located in North Africa, Morocco is the closest African country to Europe. It is separated from Spain by a Strait of Gibraltar and one of the main routes for illegal immigrants from Africa to Europe.

In 2020, Moroccan police arrested 466 suspects suspected of human smuggling, cracked 123 smuggling organizations, and intercepted nearly 10,000 illegal immigrants who tried to smuggle from Morocco to Europe.
