Malaysia’s Minister of Housing and Local Government Zuleda said on April 4 that from June 2021, a recycling fee of 20 RMG (about 35 yuan) will be charged per kilogram of “foreign garbage” imported from the country.

He pointed out that this move is to regulate and promote the development of Malaysia’s recycling industry, and also to solve the pollution of the local environment caused by foreign waste.

As of February 2021, there were 71 legal businesses in Malaysia with national waste import licenses.
