Basketball star Michael Jordan’s basketball vest sold for $1.38 million, breaking the previous auction record for “Jordan’s vest,” the U.S. auction house announced Wednesday.
The basketball vest was worn by Jordan for the 1982-1983 season, when he was playing for the University of North Carolina team and had the words “Jordan 23” written on it, AFP reported.
In March 1983, sports news magazine named Jordan College Player of the Year, and in a photo of Jordan on its cover, he wore the vest.
The vest sold for $635,000 at auction in 1999. Herritich auction house held a spring sports-themed auction, estimating that the Jordan vest would fetch about $1 million.
Last October, Jordan’s basketball vest and shorts, worn by the Chicago Bulls from 1986 to 1987, fetched $480,000.
