Will China’s vaccine be provided to other countries free of charge? If it is not free, what does China mean by global public goods?
Wang Wenbin: China has said that after China’s vaccine research and development and put into use, it will make Chinese contributions to the availability and affordability of vaccines in developing countries as a global public good. China believes what it says, and we will do it when we say it. We are implementing the commitments made with practical actions.
At present, Chinese vaccine enterprises are making every effort to promote vaccine research and development. Many vaccines have entered phase III clinical trials. The Chinese government has been actively supporting Chinese enterprises to carry out vaccine research and development cooperation with various countries.
In the multilateral field, we have maintained close communication and coordination with the World Health Organization and the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization. We have joined the “COVID-19 Vaccine Implementation Plan” and also joined the “Global Cooperation to Accelerate the Development, Production and Equitable Access to New Tools for COVID-19 Prevention and Control” initiative launched by the WHO.
Next, the Chinese government will continue to work with the international community to make our contribution to ensuring equal access to safe and effective vaccines in all countries.
I can also tell you that for underdeveloped countries or some developing countries, we can also achieve the accessibility and affordability of COVID-19 vaccines in these countries through assistance and other means.
