October 21, Indian telecom operator Reliance Jio recently plans to launch a 5G smartphone priced at 5000 rupees (USD 80) within a year.
Some sources said that after the launch, the price of the mobile phone is even expected to fall further to between 2500 rupees (USD 40) to 3,500 rupees (USD 45).
Analysis said that such cheap equipment may help the operator to attract 2G users from rival networks. It is reported that the customers currently targeted by the company are mainly 2G mobile phone users in India, with approximately 350 million people.
At the Reliance Jio’s annual shareholders meeting in July, Mukesh Ambani, president of its parent company, Reliance Group India, announced a plan to design and develop a complete 5G solution, and said that once the spectrum is available, it can be tested.
Foreign media reported that India plans to hold a 5G spectrum auction in 2021, and Reliance Jio hopes to occupy a leading position in this technology. The telecom operator has announced that it has developed its own 5G solution and hopes to sell it in the global market.
