India launches national coronavirus vaccination exercise

January 2nd – On Saturday (January 2) local time, India launched a national coronavirus vaccination exercise to assess the preparation of the national vaccination work.

According to media such as The Indian Express and AFP, the vaccination exercise began on Saturday and was held simultaneously in all states of India.

The report said that this was the second vaccination exercise in the country, after the Indian government conducted vaccination exercises in four states, Andhra, Assam, Gujarat and Punjab on 28 and 29 December 2020.

The Government of India advisory panel recommended the granting of emergency use authorization for the AstraZeneca/Oxford University coronavirus vaccine on Friday (January 1).

The authorization is awaiting final approval by the Indian Drug Administration, and once approved, the first round of vaccination plans is expected to officially begin in a few weeks.

India’s cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is second only to the United States in the world.

The latest data released by the Indian Ministry of Health on the 2nd showed that the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in India rose to 10,305,788.

In the past 24 hours, 19,078 new confirmed cases have been reported in India; 224 new deaths have been reported, with a total of 149,218 deaths.
