February 8th – The Tokyo Organizing Committee announced on the 8th that about 390 Olympic volunteers have submitted their resignations to express their dissatisfaction with the previous remarks made by Yoshiro Mori, chairman of the Tokyo Organizing Committee.
According to Japan’s Asahi Shimbun website on the 8th, the Tokyo Organizing Committee said that its call center had received about 4,550 complaints.
In addition, Tokyo revealed that many citizens complained that “(Khiro Mori) could not see that he was acquising at the press conference” and “the whole Japanese society will cause overseas misunderstandings” and so on.
When Mori attended the Provisional MPs of the Japan Olympic Committee on the 3rd, he mentioned the recruitment plan of female directors being promoted by the Japan Sports Agency.
He said that the meeting attended by many female directors was time-consuming. “Women are too competitive and difficult to finish without controlling their speaking time.
In addition, he also evaluated the seven female directors of the Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee, “[They] can distinguish right from wrong, very down-to-earth, and their speeches can hit the point.”
Mori’s remarks have been criticized by many overseas media for allegedly discriminating against women.
However, Mori said that he would stay in office after apologizing for the improper remarks on the 5th.
