17 local time, the French, German and Spanish defense ministries said in a statement that the three countries have agreed on the “Future Air Combat System” project (SCAF) the next phase of research and development content, is expected to launch a new generation of fighter prototypes in 2027.
France’s defense ministry said the project would include not only a new generation of fighter jets, but also drones and combat cloud platforms. To this end, France and Germany’s leading defense enterprises will carry out balanced, extensive and in-depth cooperation.
The “Future Air Combat System” project, co-sponsored by French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in the summer of 2017, aims to be fully operational around 2040.
