Former South Korean President Lee Myung-bak 78. will serve 17 years in prison again

November 2 South Korean News Agency on the 2nd, the 78 years former South Korean President Lee Myung-bak has just arrived at the Seoul Eastern Detention Center.

This is the first time he has been in jail since 251 days. 

On the same day, Lee Myung-bak set off from his home and drove to the Seoul Central District Procuratorate.

After identification and other procedures, he was taken into the Seoul Eastern Detention Center and officially served his sentence.

According to the report, Li Mingbo will serve his sentence in a single cell as before and will be guarded by special prison guards. 

Previously, the cell area was 13 square meters with a separate toilet.

On October 29, the Supreme Court of South Korea issued a final verdict on Lee Myung-bo’s corruption and bribery case,

upholding the second-instance verdict and sentenced him to 17 years in prison

a fine of 13 billion won 11 million USD , and 5.78 billion (won 5.1 million USD). 

The court also revoked Li Mingbo’s bail order.

On the day the verdict was announced, Lee Myung-bak expressed strong dissatisfaction. He issued a statement

on the one hand angrily condemning the “rule of law in South Korea has collapsed” and

“the Supreme Court is unjust”, on the other hand, he expressed his emotion that he was very worried about the country’s future.
