April 28 enezuela’s military confirmed on the 28th that government forces in the border area near Colombia recently engaged in fighting with members of Colombian armed groups, resulting in the death of eight members of the commission.
Venezuelan Defense Minister Lopez said at a memorial service for the eight soldiers that the military will make every effort to combat the invasion and criminal activities of Colombian armed personnel, to safeguard national security and territorial integrity.
The military has previously issued a statement that since March this year, suspected of drug trafficking and terrorist activities of Colombian armed personnel have repeatedly crossed the border, with the commission’s army conflict. The military is stepping up its deployment in the border areas and has arrested several Colombian militants.
The government has accused the U.S. Southern Command of orchestrating the series of illegal intrusions behind the scenes.
