Egypt approves the emergency use of AstraZeneca vaccine

Cairo, January 31 Ali Gamravi, spokesman of the Egyptian Drug Administration, issued a statement on the 31st that the agency had approved the emergency use of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine produced by the Indian Serum Research Institute in Egypt on the 30th.

The statement said that the Egyptian Drug Administration has carried out the necessary evaluation of the vaccine to ensure the quality, safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.

At present, the agency is still evaluating other coronavirus vaccines.

Egypt’s Unified Purchasing Office issued a statement on the same day saying that Egypt ordered 20 million doses of AstraZeneca’s coronavirus vaccine, and the first 50,000 doses had arrived in the capital Cairo on the same day.

The vaccines are produced by the Serum Institute of India and have been technically authorized by the developers Oxford University and AstraZeneca in the United Kingdom.

Egypt officially approved the emergency use of the Chinese National Pharmaceutical Group’s coronavirus inactivated vaccine in Egypt on the 2nd of this month, and began to vaccinate medical staff with the National Pharmaceutical Group’s coronavirus vaccine on the 25th.

Egypt’s Ministry of Health said on the 29th that 1,315 medical staff in Egypt have been vaccinated against the vaccine.
