U.S. President Trump said he would address his supporters in Washington on the same day to protest against Congress’ confirmation of the election results.
“I’ll be giving my ‘Save America’ speech on the Oval Lawn tomorrow (January 6) at 11am ET,” Trump wrote on social media.
Trump urged people to “arrive early” and promised that “a large number of people” would attend the scene.
U.S. President-elect Biden will speak at his home in Wilmington, Delaware, on the 6th.
Prior to this, Biden will meet with his economic advisers.
Two months after voting in the November 2020 U.S. election, Trump still refuses to admit defeat.
He repeatedly filed allegations of election fraud in those states that narrowly lost.
Several courts rejected the Trump team’s legal challenge, but analysis shows that he has successfully sowed the seeds of doubt among Republican voters.
A December 2020 survey found that more than half of Republican voters thought Trump had won, or were not sure who won.
Many Trump supporters gathered near the White House on the 5th to prepare for a protest against Congress to confirm the election results on the 6th.
Most of downtown Washington is locked down, and shops and businesses are closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
There are concerns that the violence during the anti-racist protests in the United States in 2020 may occur again.
