January 31 – According to Reuters, a mysterious giant statue stone carving on the southern hillside of Britain has been “pranked” recently put on a mask, and the police are searching for saboteurs.
The monument, known as the “Evermington Man”, is a 235-foot tall simple-stroke stone carving, and the “Giant” holds a white stick in each hand.” The exact origin of the Wilmington Elder Man is controversial, but many archaeologists believe that it can be traced back to Anglo-Saxon or medieval times.
“While this kind of sabotage may be out of humor or other reasons, the actions taken are unacceptable,” said Tom Carter, a police officer at Sussex Police Department.
Carter said: “The ‘Longman of Wilmington’ is protected by law because of its historical significance.”
On the afternoon of the 30th local time, a Reuters photographer who visited the scene said that the mask had been “removed”.
