Agence France-Presse, Associated Press and Reuters reported that the French Embassy in Saudi Arabia stated that on Thursday, a Saudi citizen attacked the French consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia with a knife, and a guard was injured.
After the attack, the attacker was immediately arrested.
The French Embassy in Saudi Arabia stated that the consulate in Jeddah was “struck with a knife and a guard was injured”, adding that the guard had been taken to the hospital and was not life-threatening.
The statement posted on Twitter said that the French Embassy “strongly condemned” the attack on the diplomatic institution.
Police in Mecca Province, where Jeddah is located, said the attacker was a Saudi, but did not disclose the nationality of the guard. The police said the guard was slightly injured.
Neither the Saudi authorities nor the French embassy revealed the motive of the attack.
Earlier Thursday, in the southern French city of Nice, a man with a knife beheaded a woman and killed two people. The mayor of Nice called the attack a “terrorist attack.”
