Awa Fonka Augustine, the governor of the western region of Cameroon, said that “the dead were burned to the point of identification.” In addition to the alarming death toll, 29 people were seriously burned.
“The collision between trucks and buses caused uncontrollable fires that burned trucks, buses and passengers in the car,” Augustine said.
Augustine noted that foggy weather could be the cause of the collision, and early investigations found that the truck had “brake problems”.
The governor added that the truck involved illegal transportation of fuel and the driver fled the scene after the accident.
