April 30, local time, a coach was attacked by militants near the town of Amru in oromia state in northwest Ethiopia, killing 15 people, local media reported.
Local police officials said the attackers came from Shene, a military wing of the anti-government Oromo Liberation Front (OLF).
The bus, which was scheduled to travel from the town of Burr in Amhara state to the city of Nekemt in Oromia state, was attacked by the Shane group as it arrived near the town of Amru and forced to divert, resulting in the death of 15 people.
The victims were members of the Amhara and Oromo communities in the area. The armed group has carried out numerous attacks against civilians, particularly the Amhara ethnic group in oromia.
On the same day, six civilians were killed in an attack on the local population by another group of illegal armed groups in the Bench-Sheko region of southern Ethiopia. It is not clear whether the illegal armed group belongs or whether it is related to the new administrative arrangements.
According to information released by the Ethiopian National Electoral Commission, the referendum in south-west Ethiopia will be held on 5 June.
