According to the website of the Italian newspaper Republic, at about 6:30 a.m. local time on the 8th, the parking lot of a hospital in Naples, southern Italy, suddenly sank, creating a crater with an area of about 2,000 square meters and a depth of 20 meters. Some vehicles in the parking lot fell into the sinkhole.
The local fire department rushed to the scene for disposal, and so far no casualties have been reported.
According to the report, affected by the subsidence accident, the main power supply line and hot water supply of the hospital were interrupted, and the hospital entered a state of emergency.
The admission and treatment center for COVID-19 patients was temporarily closed.
However, most of the hospital’s treatment work can still operate normally under the supply of backup power generation equipment.
Witnesses said that there was a loud noise at the scene of the incident.
The local procuratorial agency has opened an investigation into the cause of the accident.
