November 19 Kenya’s Ishagbini Shirola Reserve said that the only known white giraffe in the world is currently equipped with a global positioning system ( GPS) equipment to prevent being killed by poachers.
The skin color of white giraffes is caused by a rare “albinism gene”. Three white giraffes originally lived in the reserve, but in March this year, the remains of a pair of giraffe mothers and children were discovered. The reserve is suspected to be the work of poachers.
Kenya’s Ishagbini Shirola Reserve said that the GPS equipment worn on the animal’s corner will update its location once an hour. Rangers will be able to monitor the activities of the giraffe to protect it from poachers.
