From the evening of the 23rd to the early morning of the 24th local time, widespread snowfall caused hundreds of traffic accidents in Germany, killing at least two people and blocking some railway traffic.
In Lake Mecklenburg District, two cars collided on a slippery rural road in the Laneberg area, killing two drivers and injuring one. There was also a serious traffic accident in the Stad area of Lower Saxony. A car carrying five people overturned the road and hit a tree. A 15-year-old teenager was killed and others were injured and hospitalized.
In Schleswig Holstein, relevant departments recorded at least 190 traffic accidents after the snowfall. Frost and freezing occurred in southern Germany. On Highway 6 near Amberg, a total of 20 cars had nine accidents on a 1-kilometer section, 6 people were slightly injured and the highway was forced to close. About 45 traffic accidents were recorded in the Lower Bavaria region. Railway traffic was also affected by snowfall, and long-distance trains were cancelled or delayed.
The German Railway Company said that railway traffic will basically return to normal on the 24th.
