SAN FRANCISCO, May 18 2021 At least two gunmen opened fire on a party bus in the San Francisco Bay Area of California in the early hours of The Morning Of May 18, Killing Two Young Women And Injuring At Least Five Others.
The party bus was returning to Oakland from San Francisco when the incident occurred, with more than a dozen passengers celebrating a woman’s 21st birthday, local media reported. At 0200 hours at least two gunmen in another vehicle began shooting at a party bus traveling on Interstate 580. The Associated Press reported that the gunman then followed the party bus off the highway and continued to open fire on the streets of Oakland.
A party bus is a modified bus or coach used to party in the car. Authorities estimate that about 70 rounds of ammunition from at least two different guns hit the party bus in the case. After being shot, the bus driver drove to the local police station.
The Alameda County coroner says one woman died on the party bus and the other died in hospital. As of the afternoon of the 18th, officials have not released details of the dead. A relative of the deceased told local media that 19-year-old Auckland man Thurston was killed in the incident. The Mordesto Bee newspaper reported that the other person killed was Hughes, 16, of Modesto. The mother of the deceased said her daughter died of a gunshot wound at an Oakland hospital.
At least five women were injured in the incident and some were taken by ambulance from the police station to hospital, one of whom is in a critical condition. A man told the media that the girl who celebrated her 21st birthday that day was his daughter. She was shot in the leg and is in a stable condition.
A spokesman for the California Highway Patrol said there was little information about the suspect or his vehicle. The Oakland Police Department and the Oakland Crime Stopper will offer a reward of up to $40,000 for clues.
On April 9, a 25-year-old woman was shot and wounded in a party bus in Oakland. Police said neither shooting on the party bus was random. The number of homicides investigated by local police rose to 51 this year after two 17-year-olds were shot dead in Oakland on May 16, compared with 24 in the same period last year.
