May 14 2021 The New York City Police Department said Wednesday that two more subway attacks targeting Asians in the area, in which a 23-year-old nurse was hit in the head with a cane and a 21-year-old nurse was beaten in the face. The New York Police Department’s Hate Crime Task Force has now launched an investigation into both incidents.
Both cases occurred on the 12th, the New York Post reported. The 23-year-old nurse was on her way to work at the hospital at around 6.50am that morning. After she got out of the car, a stranger on the platform, who was not wearing a mask, suddenly hit her on the head and buttocks with a cane. The woman told police that the attacker was a black man. Police said there was no verbal conversation between the two sides.
Another attack occurred around 8.30am that day when a 21-year-old nurse was on a train when a strange man punched her in the face. Police sources said the man acted strangely and suddenly walked up to the victim and punched her in the face. Passers-by who witnessed the attack took control of the man until the police arrived. The suspect, 29-year-old Andres Gonzalez, has been arrested and charged with third-degree assault on suspicion of a hate crime. He had been arrested five times before, police said.
