On the 13th, Kazakhstan’s President Tokayev held telephone talks with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.
During the talks, the two presidents exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan in the context of the withdrawal of U.S. and NATO troops from Afghanistan, and both sides agreed that Afghan rule and political and diplomatic means to advance the peace process is the only correct option.
During the talks, Tokayev noted kazakhstan’s readiness to provide assistance to a peaceful and neutral Afghanistan free of terrorism and the illicit drug trade, and expressed the hope that the two governments would strengthen dialogue in order to resolve the issue of economic and humanitarian cooperation expeditiously.
Ashraf Ghani thanked Kazakhstan for its consistent support to Afghanistan and for its humanitarian assistance, as well as Kazakhstan’s active participation and commitment in the international community’s efforts to resolve the Afghan problem. It is reported that this meeting was held at the initiative of the Afghan side.
