Somali police spokesman Sadiq Aden Ali said a suicide bomber detonated a bomb at a police station in Mogadishu’s Wabari district that night, killing six people, including the head of the Wabari district police, the deputy police chief of The Vario-Ade, three soldiers and a civilian, and wounding six others.
Witnesses said there were many civilians around the attack, the explosion was powerful, the death toll may rise.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. Analysts believe that the Somali extremist group al-Shabab often launch similar attacks.
On the same day, Somali government forces launched a military operation in the central state of Hiran, killing seven Al-Shabaab militants and wounding 17 others.
Al-Shabaab is an extremist group linked to al-Qa’idah and has carried out frequent terrorist attacks in Somalia and neighbouring countries in recent years.
