BELGRADE, May 7 2021 Serbian Minister of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs Tepavcevic and Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Chen Bo went to the old site of the Chinese Embassy in Yugoslavia on the 7th to hang the three martyrs who died in the 1999 bombing of the Embassy.
Tepavcevic and Chen Bo laid wreaths and observed a moment of silence at the monument. “Today we are here to pay tribute to the Chinese journalists who lost their lives in NATO’s brutal aggression . . . Chinese people are our great friends, and we always give our full support to Chinese people when we face challenges. We are honored to have friends like China and thank Chinese people. ”
Chen Bo spoke positively of The Sino-Serbian friendship, condemned the atrocities committed by the aggressors, and told Xinhua that on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, it is of more special significance to look back on history and remember the martyrs. “For 22 years, the blood of the three martyrs has inspired every Chinese to unite and strive for a stronger nation.”
On the same day, Chinese media reporters in Serbia, some Chinese enterprises and overseas Chinese also laid flower baskets at the monument in memory of the martyrs.
On May 7, 1999, NATO, led by the United States, launched a blatant bombing campaign against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, brutally attacking our Embassy in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia with missiles, resulting in the tragic deaths of Xinhua News Agency reporters Yu Yunhuan, Xu Akihu and Zhu Ying, who were working in the Embassy, while injuring dozens of people and seriously damaging the embassy premises. On 7 May 2009, the Belgrade Municipal Government erected a monument in front of the old embassy site in memory of the Chinese martyrs who died in the NATO bombing and to thank China for its valuable support during the most difficult times in Serbia.
